How Have Recent Pandemics Affected Oral Health: A Systematic Review using Narrative Synthesis of the Literature from 2011-2021

Introduction: Pandemics have affected and will continue to affect humankind. Historically the Human Immunodeficiency Virus changed way dental clinics operate COVID-19 pandemic led an unprecedented closure of leading short- long-term impact on oral health. Aim: To assess health related behaviours modern pandemics. Method: A literature search across eighteen electronic databases was conducted. Three reviewers screened 2029 articles against inclusion criteria assessed quality. Included underwent thematic analysis, followed by narrative synthesis describe results. Results: Forty-eight were included that identified themes: (i) quality life, (ii) stress pandemics, (iii) behaviours, (iv) social capital, (v) access healthcare, (vi) fear as a barrier accessing healthcare (vii) teledentistry. Conclusion: present multiple challenges both individuals professionals these disproportionately most vulnerable communities. However, with right support, impacts can be mitigated through capital support establish healthy routines. The use digital technologies should promoted reach all communities before next arrives.
